The Distinguished Commissioner Service Award was instituted to upgrade the commissioner service and to recognize commissioners who are providing quality service.
Award is presented to commissioners, upon recommendation, for completing the following requirements:

Complete training as outlined by local council, including earning the Commissioner's Key.

Serve as an active commissioner for five consecutive years and be currently registered with the Boy Scouts of America.

Recharter at least 90% of the units in your area of service for a minimum of the past two consecutive years. This applies to council commissioners, assistant council commissioners, district commissioners, assistant district commissioners, and unit commissioners.

Assist units so that more than 50% achieve National Quality Unit Award in your area of service for a minimum of the past two consecutive years.

Roundtable commissioner recognition is based on completing the first two requirements, and must conduct at least nine roundtables per year for the past two years.
Local councils certify the eligibility of individuals, and present the recognition. There is no national application.
