Silver Award #2 Knot

The knot award was issued for the second Silver Award from 1954 ~ 76. The knot had a cloth backing.

The Silver Award was discontinued from the basic Explorer program in 1958, after which all explorers were then able to earn the Eagle Scout Award. Air Explorers continued to earn the Silver Award until 1966.Although the knot was discontinued from the catalogs in 1966, it remained available through the supply system.

The knot was re-listed in the insignia catalog and renamed as the Explorer Silver Award from 1977 - 86.

It was still designated for wear to represent those who have earned the Ranger, Air Explorer Ace, and Explorer Silver Award.

The knot was again renamed from 1986 - 94 as the Explorer Achievement Award. During this period of time, it was also designated for wear to represent those who have earned the Ranger, Air Explorer Ace, and Explorer Silver Award.

The next designation for this award was the Young American Award - 1995 - 96. Also representing all previous awards.

The knot was again renamed, from 1996 ~ 99, as the Exploring Gold Award or the G.O.L.D. (Growth Opportunity in Leadership Development) Award. It was also designated for wear to represent those who have earned the Ranger, Air Explorer Ace, Explorer Silver, Young American Award, and the Explorer Achievement Award.

There is no way to distinguish which award was earned.

Only those who earned the award through the Exploring Division of the Boy Scouts of America prior to August 1998 may wear this award.
